Tours to Corbett National Park


Corbett National ParkThe Corbett National Park came into existence in the year 1936 as Hailey National Park. The park was renamed later in the honor of late Jim Corbett, a great hunter and conservationist who made major contributions in setting up the park.

Location


The Corbett National Park lies in the foothills of the Himalayas. The Park is located in the state of Uttaranchal. It's now famous for its tiger reserves, which were formed as a part of the Project Tiger- launched with the support of the World Wildlife Fund. According to estimates, the tiger count in 1984 was 90. The chief reason for forming the tiger reserve was to prevent the extinction of tigers. The reserve in the park is in Dhikala.

Flora and Fauna


The diverse flora and fauna of the park results from its varied topography .The Park has hilly areas, plateaus, ravines and depressions, which are marshy. The park is home to 110 species of trees, 50 species of mammals, 580 species of birds and 25 reptile species.

You can find many exotic species of flora and fauna in this beautiful forest range. The forest place is covered with vegetation of Sal, dry deciduous trees, shrubs and grasses.

The various species of the Sal trees you can find here are Jamun, Shisham, Khair, Mahua, Palash and Simal. It is home to many birds like Pelicans, Great Crested Grebe, Greylag Geese, Indian Shag, Cormorants, Darters, Black-winged Kite, Osprey, Fishing Eagle, Himalayan Longbilled Vulture, Tree Pies, Black-necked Storks, White-capped Redstart, Spurwinged Lapwing, Blackheaded Orioles, Paradise Flycatchers, Black Partridge, Grey Heron, Egrets, Warblers, Bulbuls, Hoopoe, Larks, White-necked Storks, Peregrine Falcon, Crested Serpent Eagle, Blue-tailed bee-eaters, Swifts, Redstarts, Swallows, Mynahs, Finches. There are many migratory birds, which make this Park their home.

Corbett National ParkThe wildlife also includes animals such as tigers, leopards, jungle cat, jackals, dholes, small Indian civet, langur, Indian pangolin, sambar, spotted linsang, hedgehogs, wild elephants, black-naped hare, sloth bear, palm squirrel, Indian porcupine, chital, nilgai, rhesus macaque, red fox, masked palm rivet, wild boar, common goral, Indian munjtac, marsh crocodile, Northern palm squirrel, etc.

You can also catch the sights of the Mahaseer, a freshwater fish. The varieties you are going to find here are Goonch, Silver Mahaseer and the Black Mahaseer, but fishing isn't allowed in the park. If you are interested in fishing this sporty fish you can head for areas like Pancheshwar, Ramgarh and Binsar.

You can also treat your eyes with the variety of species of deer like sambar and chital, seen mainly in the grasslands. The most convenient way to go through the park is by hiring a jeep safari, which can be easily rented from Ramnagar. The Corbett National Park closed to the public from June 16 to November 14. The best time to visit the park is from November 15 to June 15.
