Srinagar
The major tourist attraction in Kashmir is the city of Srinagar, also the summer capital of the royalty in India. In Srinagar, you can stay at any of the Houseboats on Dal Lake which are beautifully designed with intricate carvings and offering splendid views of the Lake. Go for a shikara ride amidst the floating gardens of the Lake. You will find here the Mihrbahri people, who sell flowers, fruits and vegetables that are grown on the floating gardens. Visit the famous Mughal Gardens, of them the Nishat bagh and Shalimar Bagh are more famous ones. Emperor Jehangir built the Shalimar Bagh for his empress Nur Jahan. The gardens are situated on the banks of the Dal Lake and have beautiful hills in the background. Srinagar's beauty is so splendid which has earned it sobriquets such as paradise. Its beauty draws parallels with Venice.
Gulmarg
A drive from Srinagar to Gulmarg is a 55 km stretch of scenic beauty. Gulmarg literally means a lane strewn with flowers. It is the most beautiful resort in the entire Kashmir valley. It offers one of the best ski slopes of the world and the highest golf course of the world with 18 holes. You can also take a short trip up to the Khilanmarg or enjoy a Gondola ride to the splendid snowy slopes.
Pahalgam
Pahalgam is another popular tourist destination lying about 96 kms. Enroute you can visit the Saffron fields and the Anantnag Sulphur spring. View the rice fields and the beautiful countryside of Pahalgam. Pahalgam offers scintillating views situated at a height of 2130 meters at the confluence of two streams from Sheshnag River and the Lidder River. Pahalgam offers tourists many scenic trails where you can walk around to discover the beauty of the place or you can even enjoy horse riding. Pahalgam is also home to the Shiva Temple, considered to be the oldest existing temple of Kashmir, dating several centuries back.
Sonamarg
For those who love trekking they can take an excursion to Sonamarg, situated at a distance of about 83 kms from Srinagar. The Sonamarg lies in the Sindh valley and it forms a picturesque view being strewn with flowers and lovely green meadows encircled by mountains. You can go trekking on these majestic peaks.
