India has a history that is steeped in time. The history of India is replete with instances of kings, princes, kingdoms, slavery and finally independence. There are many forts and palaces dotting the scape of India. Delhi has the majestic Red Fort. The Fort is located on the banks of River Yamuna and it is built of the red sandstone. The Fort was built by Shah Jahan and is designed in Mughal architecture. Situated very close to the Fort is the busy and bustling market of Chandni Chowk and the famous Jama Masjid.
The splendor of Jaipur
The signature tour can't be complete without including Rajasthan in the itinerary. Rajasthan is also known as the land of princes and a walk through this land is going to give you ample evidence of this. Most of the cities of Rajasthan have their fair shares of palaces, which have been designed splendidly and there are forts, which were built for the protection of the cities. Jaipur, the pink city is home to the magnificent City Palace. This palace is a complex consisting of other small palaces, buildings, museum and gardens. The other Mahals include Chandra, Badal and Mubarak Mahal. Jaipur is home to Hawa Mahal, a marvel built in pink and red sandstone and the Amber and Jaigarh Forts, stunning works of military architecture.
The magnificent Udaipur
Then comes the city of palaces, Udaipur. The chief attractions are the City Palace and the Lake Palace. The City Palace overlooks the beautiful Lake Pichola. The City Place awaits you to tell the stories of its rich treasures in the past. The entrance through the Tripolia Gate has eight marble arches of 'Toranas' under which the rulers used to be weighed against gold and silver and the amount used to be distributed amongst the local population. The other structures in the Palace are 'Raj Aaangan' or the royal courtyard dating back to 1571. The Lake palace is a splendidly done palace, which seems like a white marvel emerging out of the lake. The Palace is spread over a narea of 4 acres and it is 800 feet away from the bank. The palace has motifs from the Mughal and Rajput architecture. The interiors have stain glass windows, period furniture and walls adorned with antique paintings.
Golden Jaisalmer
Jaisalmer is famous for its golden sand dunes. The Jaisalmer Fort, also known as shonar kella or the golden fort overlooks the city with buildings in yellow sandstone. Rawal Jailsal built this Fort in 1156 yet it still houses about a fourth of the city's population. The fort consists of various shops, homes and temples. It has about 99 bastions around its boundary. The Fort has a group of 5 Jain temples, however the are open only till 12 noon.
