Background


The kings and the rulers of India in their royal fashion used to travel in the luxury coaches. However, post independence these coaches lied stationed, unused until the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation in the year 1981-82 launched the services of these trains for the visitors to Rajasthan. Soak yourself in the beauty and the grandeur of the luxury provided here. There are 14 deluxe saloons bearing motifs from the princely states of Rajasthan like Alwar, Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Jaisalmer. Veritable feasts to the eyes are the ceilings with painted silk, period furniture, traditional handicrafts and paintings embellishing the saloons. To complete the royal experience there is a personal attendant or Khidmatgar, dressed up in the traditional Rajasthani attire, for each of the saloon. The Hawa Mahal and the City Palace are palaces that are going to leave you spell bound with their expansive landscaping, intricate architecture, beautiful courtyards and gardens. The Amber Fort true to the tradition of forts is built with an imposing exterior yet it has beautiful interiors lined up with the patterns of Rajasthani and Mughal architecture. The next station Palace on Wheels stops is Jaisalmer, the land of golden sand dunes. It is also home to splendidly designed havelis as well as the Jaisalmer Fort, which is a magnificent fort offering a beautiful view of the city from the top.
