Nalagarh- the gateway to Himalayas


Nalagarh is a scenic place forming the gateway to Himachal Pradesh. It was ruled by the Chandela Rajputs originating from Chanderi in the Bundelkhand region of the Central India. The expansive Nalagarh Fort was built in the year 1421. The Fort is located atop a hillock in the foothills of the mighty Himalayas. The Fort offers splendid views of the Shivalik Hills lying beyond the Sirsa River.

Pragpur- The heritage village


The next in line is Pragpur situated at a distance of about two and a half hours from Nalagarh. Pragpur is a quaint village situated at a height of 1800 ft. in the Kangra Valley.
The splendid beauty of the village has earned it a title of the heritage village. The picturesque village lies nestled below the white ranges also known as the Dhauladhars. Walk the lanes of this village to move back in time where the streets are cobbled, the houses are plastered with mud and the roofs are slated, where shops stay unchanged by time. A very famous hotel you can stay at is the Judge's court. It is set amidst beautiful colors of the orchards and exotic trees. Enjoy your stay with home made delicacies, even the milk here comes from the dairy owned by the Hotel itself and the water comes from a mountain spring.

Taragarh- a scenic beauty


Taragarh is a two and half hours drive from Pragpur. The Taragarh Palace is situated at a height of 1000 meters amidst the snow-capped peaks. The place is a delight for nature lovers with the lush green environs of the estate surrounded by Tea gardens. Some 17 kms ahead of Taragarh are the Sobha Singh Art Gallery, the Andretta Pottery Society and the Tibetan Village of Bir.

The headquarters of His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, this scenic town rises in levels from 1250m to 2000m. The entire place is imbued with the Tibetan influence. There is the Gelupa monastery, a school for Tibetan culture, small shops selling Tibetan crafts and several restaurants serving lip smacking Tibetan food. Visit the famous Tashijong monastery. The monastery is situated overlooking the Kangra Valley and offers splendid views of the Valley. Apart from that it also promotes arts like carpet weaving, tankha painting & block printing as well as runs a school for young Tibetan children. Visit the Church of St. John, which is designed with beautiful stained glass windows.
