For stepping back in time, head for the Old Delhi area. Start your trip from the Red Fort. Within the fort you will also find a market of antiques and handicrafts called Meena Bazaar. Opposite the Fort is the busy and bustling market of Chandni Chowk. You can also visit the beautiful Jama Masjid. In New Delhi, you can also visit the Dilli Haat market in Delhi, which offers a colorful range and ambience for shopping. Visit the observatories and watch the astronomical equipment at Jantar Mantar. The Qutab Minar is one of the most recognized landmarks of Delhi. Built with red sandstone this tower has beautiful engravings from the Holy Quran. Pay tributes to one of the world's greatest leader at the Raj Ghat, the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi.
Agra - This romantic city is the home to the wonder of love known as 'The Taj Mahal'. Shah Jahan built this grandiose mausoleum in the memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. The inside of the Taj have some of the exquisite works of calligraphy. There are also beautiful patterns inlaid in the floor in which carving has been done with several precious stones. The other tourist attractions include the Agra red Fort. Akbar built this Fort primarily as a military establishment in 1565. It's a sprawling complex housing several buildings. Itmad-Ud-Daulah's Tomb is the tomb of Nur Jahan's father, who was the Wajir or Chief Minister of Mughal emperor Jehangir. The tomb is famous for its beautiful and intricate carvings.
Jaipur - More famously known as the 'pink city'. This city has a number of forts and palaces. Walk inside them to discover the treasure troves of the past. The palaces have intricately designed architecture. A visit to Hawa Mahal as well as the majestic City Palace gives a testimony to this fact. The Hawa Mahal is a beautifully designed palace overlooking the main street of Jaipur, where earlier the processions of kings took place. The unique feature of the Mahal is the several windows with latticework. The City Palace, is an amalgamation of Mughal and Rajasthani styles. The massive complex consists of courtyards, gardens and buildings. It houses several small palaces and halls such as Chandra Mahal, Badal Mahal, Mubarak Mahal as well as a museum. The palace is made in seven stories with each story bearing a distinct name and character. Visit the Jaigarh fort, which is remarkable feat of military architecture. The highlight of the place is Jaivan, which is the largest cannon on wheels. It also has a system for rainwater harvesting, a network of wide water channels.
